Kids Beds Bunk
Bunk beds provide drama to children’s rooms and provide an excitement. Ms. Keenan adds a shelf to hold books or a reading light in each sleeping space to make bunk beds more attractive to children.
Many of our beds for kids bunk are convertible to two twin beds in one which is ideal if you intend to let your children move into their own bedrooms at some point. Choose from finishes like white, brushed gray and rich walnut.
Ladders and Stairs
You can pick between ladders or stairs when it comes to bunk beds for kids. Ladders are more affordable and easy to install and offer an easy method of climbing into the bed at the top. They are also safer than stairs, since they provide a greater surface for children to walk on and have a handrail that is integrated. Ladders also usually have grooves on the steps which prevent slippage when climbing up or down the bed.
However, if you prefer the design and style of stairs, they could be a more elegant addition to your bunk bed. Staircases are also great for rooms that are limited on space, as they don’t extend into the room like ladders do. They can be constructed of wood or metal, and they can match an array of bedroom styles. Some staircases have integrated storage drawers. These are ideal for adding more space to the bunk bed.
When choosing between a staircase and a ladder, you should also consider the age of your child. It is recommended that children younger than 6 years old not sleep on the top bunk. Children older than 6 years old who are able to climb vertically might do better with stairs rather than climbing a ladder. Additionally, if you’re planning on using your bunk bed as a guest bed for younger children or adults with mobility issues, stairs are the preferred choice.
A straight staircase that runs along the sides of the bunk requires at least 95″ of space on each side. If you don’t have this much space, you can choose a u-shaped staircase that doesn’t require as much space, but provides a safe and secure way to access the top bunk. Certain beds let you disconnect the stairs when they’re not being used. This reduces the size of the bed and makes it more suited to multi-purpose spaces. There are stairs that connect to the bottom of the bed. This eliminates the need for separate handrails and makes it easier to climb to the bottom for kids.
Guard Rails
Guard rails give kids the confidence and freedom to climb in and out of bed independently. But they must be positioned correctly, ensuring that no gaps or sagging occurs between the rails that guard the bed frame. If you choose to use guard rails, make sure you follow the directions of the manufacturer and examine them on a regular basis for any holes or looseness which could cause entrapment.
One of the most important safety considerations for bunk beds is to keep them away from electrical devices and other items that could become projectiles if your children play or sleep. Place bunk beds away from windows to prevent the risk of falling in the event that your children are on the top level.
One safety feature you might think about is a night lighting for the ladder; it can help illuminate the path up and down in the event that kids wake at night to go to the bathroom or get woken during a storm, and need to get out of their rooms in a safe manner.
Another excellent safety feature for bunks is a safety net, which can be placed on the top level to prevent children from falling off when they’re asleep or playing. This is a great idea, particularly for older children who are more likely to sleep on the top bunk.
The guardrails must be secured to the bunk beds. They cannot be removed without tools. The openings in the guardrails that are above the mattress foundation shall not be greater than 3.5 inches to prevent strangulation and entrapment. Place the wedge block as shown on Figure 1 in each of the openings in the topmost guardrail member, and above the mattress foundation. Then apply 33-lbf (147-N) force in a direction perpendicular to the plane of the larger end of the block, and maintain it for a period of 1 minute.
It is a good idea to inform your children to not hang anything on the ladder or guardrail for example, belts, clothing, and sports equipment. Instead you should utilize a rack for clothes to stop these objects from becoming a strangulation risk for your child. Also, make sure that more than one child should not sleep on the top level of the bunk as this could cause an unsafe imbalance that could result in falling.
Mattresses
Be aware of the age and size of your child when selecting a mattress to fit a bunk bed. A bunk mattress should last for at least eight years or until siblings do not share the same bedroom So, you’ll want to choose a mattress that is designed to grow with your child, while providing adequate support as they get older.
Bunk mattress sizes are usually twin or full-size, and there are many alternatives that will accommodate either. If your children suffer from allergies or asthma choose an allergy-free mattress with dust mite barriers and a cover that wicks moisture. Kids are likely to experience lots of accidents and spills, which is why a mattress that has an antimicrobial layer will keep the foam safe from harmful bacteria and germs.
Another crucial aspect to consider is the mattress’s feel. Children typically weigh less than adults, so they require an item that is firm, but also comfortable. A lot of hybrid and latex mattresses have a firm and a softer side to meet the needs of both children.
Memory foam mattresses can work well for kids, but they’re not our first recommendation since they can hold heat and are too difficult on spines of young children. You should consider a hybrid or a latex mattress instead, which will provide solid support with cooling infusions that will keep your child or guest resting cool and comfortable.
A low-profile mattress is often the best option for kids bunk beds . These mattresses are designed to be thinner than standard mattresses, and increase the safety rail’s height on the top bunk. They also reduce “filler” materials to provide premium quality in a slim design.
If your child is looking to test a mattress that’s more substantial than a standard bed, consider an hybrid or innerspring mattress with upper comfort layers that can be removed or replaced as your child grows. These models will provide you with an idea of the durability of the mattress as your child grows. You can also include a bed skirt or mattress pad to prevent it from sliding. Some beds have a built-in lip or side rails to prevent this from happening.
Stores
Bunk beds can be an excellent way to save space in shared rooms for kids. Bunk beds are also a less expensive alternative to purchasing two full-sized single beds. Many bunks also offer the option of adding an trundle bed that can be hidden under the bunk that is not being used.
To maximize space and storage in a room with bunk beds, think about installing a combination kids bedroom furniture set which includes desks, dressers or bookcases. This will let you keep all your child’s personal items such as clothing, toys and clothes in one spot without cramming them into overstuffed chests or closets. These sets of kids bedroom furniture can be found at a variety of stores. They meet federal safety standards.
Stacked bunks can be an imaginative playground as children can transform the spaces underneath into cosy places to hide and play. Designer Elizabeth Georgantas stacked six bunks to create the ultimate children space. It can be used for sleeping, playing or even for twirling superhero capes. The room has the bubble wallcovering of Chasing Paper and a ceiling painted in Benjamin Moore Blue Jean to create the perfect escape.
If you’re unable to install stairs to your bunk that is stacked A ladder is an easy solution. They are constructed with a single socket Flange, Single Socket, and 90 Degree Side Outlet Fittings. They can be easily adjusted in order to increase or decrease the distance between the ladder rungs. The rungs of the ladder are also positioned in a way that they are flush with the ground rather than above it, to make climbing less daunting.
Another way to maximize space in a room that has bunk beds is to put up loft kids beds that can be moved down to just above the floor. This allows you slide desks, dressers, or toy chests beneath the beds on top. This is a great method to maximize space in bedrooms that are small, or in large family homes where beds need to be capable of accommodating multiple sleepers.
