Michael’s Violin Lessons

No matter what your goals are on violin, what style of music you want to play on the instrument, or what your prior experience with violin is, Michael truly enjoys sharing the “how to” information essential on violin with his students. His approaches are thourough, logical, practical, easy to learn, effective and most of all…musical. The Teacher: Michael has 40 years of violin and musical education and professional performance experience to share with the student. The instruction and lessons are tailored to the needs of each student to help each achieve their violin or musical goals. Michael began his music study formally at age five on piano and later on violin as well. Violin became his primary focus very soon after beginning, but he studied piano as well throughout his college years as his secondary instrument. Education: 1975–1988–Private Studies in violin and piano as a youth. 1988–1993–Attended Texas Tech University’s School of Music as a Music Performance Major in Violin. 1993–Graduated with a B.A. Diploma from Texas Tech University in Performance in Violin. 1991–2001–Attended ten summers of the Meadowmount School of Music in Westport N.Y., founded by the 20th Century’s world renowned violin teacher and pedagogue (and head of the violin department of Juilliard for over 30 years), Ivan Galamian (1903–1981), where he studied privately with that master teacher’s primary teaching assistants. Meadowmount and Ivan Galamian’s student alumni include classical music stars such as Itzhak Perlman, Yo Yo Ma, Pinchas Zukerman, Kyung Wha Chung, Michael Rabin and many others as well as top violin teachers, chamber musicians, and concertmasters and section players of major symphony orchestras throughout the world today. 1991–2008–Extensive Private violin study with top violin faculty of The Juilliard School, Mannes School of Music, and NYU. These studies were with the primary teaching assistants to Ivan Galamian, now renowned violin teachers in their own right. 1994–1995–Completed Courses in Public School Education for the Stateof Texas’ Public School Teaching Certificate at the University of Texas El Paso. 1995–Received a Lifetime Teaching Certificate for teaching in Public Schools in the State of Texas in all levels Music Instruction (grades K-12). 1975–1988–Extensive performing experience on violin (and piano) as an amateur student. Numerous prizes and awards received. 1988–Present–Extensive professional experience with Orchestral, Chamber Music and Violin Solo performing in the U.S. and abroad.
