oan is a retired music teacher and administrator from the Public Schools in Harford County, Maryland. She is a graduate of Susquehanna University with a B.M. and received a M.S. in Music Education from Towson University. Joan has been a church musician for 43 years and has taught private voice and piano students for 20 years. Using music education methods from her teaching years such as Kodaly, Dalcroze and Orff, her students learn to read music, sightread, play by ear, playing accompaniments and how to turn papers if needed. She stresses the need to practice and set goals for playing. Her students have opportunities to play at a culminating recital and perform during church services. Joan continues to perform herself for special church services and has played for several weddings and other events.
